The manufacturer of Bud, of course, is no longer an American company. Earlier this century, the major shareholders of what was then Anheuser-Busch began lobbying the ruling Busch family to sell the firm, whose roots extended into the 1860s. Their stocks were not working well and the world's largest breweries were consolidating. South African breweries took over Miller in 2002, then SABMiller and Molson Coors merged their U.S.
In 2004, Belgium's Interbrew merged with Brazil's AmBev to become InBev, manufacturer of brands such as Beck's and Stella Artois. Anheuser-Busch InBev continues to operate a dozen breweries in the United States, as well as centers that feed on commercial beer, including a glass manufacturing plant and hop farms. Anheuser-Busch InBev, owner of Budweiser, has 14 breweries in China and is the third largest beer brand in the country. Many brew beer only for the surrounding regional markets, a return to the local AB-Inbev approach did much to dismantle (which it is still doing, with a recent wave of craft brewery acquisitions and subsequent expansions of those brands' reach).
In addition, Anheuser-Busch operates as a business unit for its Brewers Collective portfolio, developed by 10 Barrel Brewing Company. In addition to the regular Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch brews several different beers under the Budweiser brand, including Bud Light, Bud Ice and Bud Light Lime. There are more than 30 years of Budweiser consumption time. Labatt has been producing in Canada for more than 30 years.
This hesitant company was bought by soap maker Eberhard Anheuser in 1860, and the following year Anheuser's daughter married Adolphus Busch, a brewery supplier who became the driving force behind the brewery's future success. After completing the acquisition in November, the newly formed Anheuser-Busch InBev became the world's largest brewer. The “original” Budweiser, he points out, is actually Budvar, a small Czech brewery that has been fighting giant Anheuser-Busch and now its parent company AB InBev on multiple fronts for the right to use the Budweiser name since before World War I.
